The pot is an accumulation of all the bets made by all players in a single round. After the ante is contributed, the dealer will shuffle the deck and deal the cards to each player.

Once the cards have been shuffled and the dealer has given everyone a chance to see their cards, betting takes place. Players can choose to bet their hand, or fold. If they choose to bet, they must match the bet that another player has placed. They may also choose to bluff, in which case they are able to place more than the other players. However, if they choose to fold, they have already lost their opportunity to compete for the pot.

If a player is not able to contribute enough chips, they might opt to go all in, in which case they will show their entire hand for the pot. They will then receive the entire pot, if they win. Depending on the rules of the particular game, they can only bet the maximum amount allowed in the limit.

Poker games vary by the number of cards in the pack, the number of players, and the type of poker. Some have a single deck, while others use two or more decks. Traditionally, the standard pack is 52 cards. A few variants, such as Texas Hold’Em, use a different deck.

Ties in poker are broken when a high card breaks them. For example, when no one has a pair, the high card breaks the tie.
