If no one else calls, the player who made the bet wins the pot. The player who called is said to “call.”

A player’s bet is called a raise when he makes a higher bet than the previous bettor. A player is said to call if he makes a bet that matches the previous bet. A player who doesn’t make a bet is said to “drop.” A player who folds is said to “fold.” If a player folds, he may no longer be able to compete for the pot. During this time, the player can shuffle his or her cards.

If there is still a tie for the highest-ranking hand, the pot is awarded to the player with the highest-ranking poker hand. A player may win by bluffing, by making a bet that he or she has the best hand, or by making a bet that no one else has made.
